History:

Thomas & Howard Company, Inc. is a privately owned convenience distributor headquartered in Columbia, South Carolina. With annual sales in excess of $200 million, we provide full-line, full-service distribution to convenience stores and small grocery stores, primarily located in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee. In addition to distribution services, Thomas & Howard also operates numerous wholesale/retail outlets throughout South Carolina and North Carolina.

Founded in Durham, North Carolina, the partnership of C. C. Thomas and C. L. Howard was soon joined by J. E. Timberlake, who was responsible for the growth of the company throughout the South. It was not uncommon to see the Thomas & Howard name on a warehouse in many “big” small towns across the Southeast. Originally founded as a grocery wholesaler, the company has transitioned from large grocery store distribution to convenience store distribution.  With the growth of technology in transportation, warehousing, and information systems over the decades, Thomas & Howard has been able to maintain the same territory of operations while becoming increasing more efficient.  The core values established early on by J.E. Timberlake along with consistently high service levels and the ability to leverage technology have enabled Thomas & Howard to survive and prosper for more than 110 years.
